Effexor (RX question)

Carol, thank you for posting. I will certainly take that into consideration. I went through the same experience that you did only with Cymbalta. My DH had to come home from work when I told him I was 'unsafe'. It was awful.

I have used Antidepressants for years and after about 2 or 3, I end up needing a new one because it just stops working. Its so frustrating.

Thank you again.

Paxil appears to work much better if it is an anxiety based disorder. For anxiety/depression, Effexor , Lexapro or Cymbalta are better choices. Remember though, any or all of these drugs affect the brain chemistry, and that is so individual, what works for one person may not for another. I took Celexa and wanted to die on the stuff, but Effexor didn't seem to bother me at all.

Peace Kim, I hope you find what works, and if I can help, you just ding me darlin'

Camelot, you're very welcome. Effexor is a sore subject with me, as you can tell. I also agree with ChicknJ, the reaction to these drugs is very individualized. I forgot to mention in my previous post that I take the drugs I mentioned for depression and have taken something for that condition since college (about 25 years). I'm like you, Camelot, I change drugs after a few years because they seem to all lose their effectiveness for me after a while.

I want to reiterate that I liked the Effexor for about the first four years and felt much better for taking it. Then the bad things started to happen...

Merry Christmas,
Carol

I was on Paxel for several months, when we came to tenn to visit my DD. Forgot the med when we got home, and it was a few days before I couldget myprescription refilled. I think that was some of the worst days of my life. by that time most of it was out of my system, and now I refuse to take any depression meds I have to take daily. so my dr. prescribs valium , and I take it when i need it.I don't need it every day . but when i do need it I have something that will take effect pretty quickly if I disolve it under my tonge(sp) like I do the nitro. But since each person is different, talk to your dr. about the side effects. Sometimes the side effects are worse then the depresion marrie

you do get floaty when you first start those types of meds... i am using wellbutrin and celexa.. at first they gave me a stomach ache and floaty but if you take them before bed you sleep through it till you adjust.. my doctor ended up cutting my meds in half because i seem to really respond to them way to much.. if you haven't leveled out in a couple of days i would definately talk to your doctor..

Sorry, I find this insulting. We can't even take writing pens from the drug companies anymore and even if we could, I don't think a pen would entice someone to write a prescription for the company.

I don't think that was aimed at you... Its just like with any private business or politics, those few that are corrupt taint the good. Broad strokes... like the bad apple analogy.

I'm sorry that you were insulted by my opinion on the perks pharmaceutical companies give to people in human medicine. The comment was not aimed at you. I know the veterinary medicine community quite well and the drug companies, prescription food companies and equipment companies are notorious for giving perks to veterinarians. The companies start the practice while the vets are still in school with hosting parties and giving away trips to fun places which also happen to have a seminar going on about their product while you are there. I know from acquaintences in the human medicine field that the practice is similar there. I'm glad to know, joedie, that you are not involved in these activities. Gives me hope that the world is becoming a more equitable place for all.

Happy New Year!

Wyeth isn't so bad either. We were having some financial problems over the summer (long story) but the doc gave me some forms to fill out and to send back to Wyeth and they've GIVEN me a yr supply free of my meds. I didn't know how I would have been able to stay on my meds other wise....
