Efficient Coop Dimensions

My Hoop Coop is 8.6ft x 10ft x 6.? ft high. Why those dimensions?
8.6 ft is the width of the 2 cattle panels I used
10ft is the length of the 2x4's I used for the front and back bottom frame, and the 6.? height is whatever the apex of the arch is when you bend a 16ft panel and fasten the ends 10 ft apart!
Oh yeah, and tarps come in a handy 10'x16' size too.

Okay my coop is a wooden shed that my husband didn't use anymore but I think it is 6'x6' I have 3 California Whites, 2 black australorp and a rooster. The dimension might be 8x8 but is this big enough? They will have lots of outside space that my family is getting ready now, and I have been thinking of a way to put the nesting boxes on a "second floor", so any ideas?

What everyone said is true.

One thing I did not see though, is wall height. I used the T-111 barn type siding and it comes in 4x8 sheets just like plywood, so 8' tall is probably ideal there too. Mine is only six foot high because I framed mine like a pole barn with a treated 4x4 (8'tall buried 2'deep) on each corner with 2x4 horizontally. I had to cut my siding off 2', which is wasteful, but I saved on framing lumber. I can use the 2' cut off of the siding for my laying boxes.

We decided to go with an 8'X12' size, because of the standard lengths in wood. My coop has actually ended up being 8'X11', but that is another story!!! My DH decided to go with 4' high walls and a taller roof so it would cut the amount of 2X4's that we needed in half. We then went with a higher roof line. It has worked really well and come out really cute so far! It looks like a chalet! I have posted pics and dimensions, that are a little farther down in my post, if interested in taking a peek.

I have a posting showing the progress from start to finish.

I don't think it's pretty enough for the constest.

It was pretty cost efficient, I haven't fenced the run yet, but I will onlly have about $450 total cost.

Well, let me be clear that it isn't so much about how pretty it is as much as it is about how good the pictures, plans, descriptions are.

That said, the main goal of the contest is to get as many different coop designs as possible posted up on the site, so even if you don't want to be entered into the contest, it would be great to have you (and everyone else) create coop design pages for the site and the community.

(sorry to hijack the thread... now back to efficient coop dimensions)
