try a home store, I've got a huge one, cheep at a decorting place, its made out of alumium, it holds around 3 doz + eggs

Well, I need to find something, even if it's ordinary. Carrying them around in a shirttail just is waiting for the enivitable to happen.

There's lots of cool shaped baskets at any thrift store. Just soak 'em in some bleach water before you use them.
I even do this with new ones before using.

When I was in my 20s and first mentioned that I wished for chickens someday, my funny mom gave me a wire basket shaped like a chicken so I'd be able to at least keep "store eggs" in it. I've had it for over 30 years now (OMG!, I'm old!) and she'd be so glad that this year I finally got my chicks. Sure do miss her.

FYI -- A cheap basket alternative is the plastic Easter buckets that Wal-Mart is currently carrying. I bought several last year at 75% off after Easter and use them for every thing from kitchen scraps to dog food to egg gathering. The eggs do roll around on the smooth flat bottom, but it does work. You could line it with a soft material.

Currently priced at $1.50 each.

But I make woven reed baskets. I would like to try the old egg basket pattern something like these: http://www.simplybaskets.com/ButtocksBaskets.html . But I have too many other projects currently going.

Look at antique stores, estate sales, rural flea markets and garage sales. Ebay would probably have some too.

I have a rounded one that was given to me years ago by my husband's grandmother. I liked hearing that it could be worth $400...
