Egg Baskets

It was very old, and I would say it was an antique, but it sat out there for months and months and months, I think if they'd lowered their price even $10.00 it would have sold, actually I would have bought it! ... I think it's still sitting there, infront of the shop during the day in our old town haha.

I'd like to collect antique egg baskets...that'd be way too cool!

My little brother (20) would break eggs when he gathered them when I'm away from home. Well... I dug out this rainbow plastic striped easter basket from when we were like 5, and put in an egg flat type carton in the bottom. Eggs go directly into the carton and no breakage. However, when I got back one week, the rainbow basket was no longer rainbow... it was primer black.

You know, it's funny you should say that, and I thought it was just me!! I LOVE old stuff and I feel good when I do things that my grandma used to do - like raise chickens, can fruits and vegetables, and make pickles. Of course, they are never as good as grandma made them but it makes me feel good anyway! Today was my grandma's birthday. She's been gone 17 years and I really miss her still.

Yep, an antique. Had some old car parts stacked in it! Some folks just don't know what they have....that's why I love yard sales and dumpster diving. I have found some of the most lovely antiques this way. I once rescued a 6 ft. wicker porch swing out of the trash. Used it for years, made some red ticking cushions for it and the kids used to lay down on it and read a book, sleep, listen to the rain.

Now my egg basket doubles as an egg basket and vegetable gathering basket. I use it for everything...even for decoration when I am getting ready for company. Looks real cute to set in a guests bedroom with homemade soaps, lotions, sugar scrubs, wash cloths, homemade rock candy and magazines. People love it!

I am so jealous, I've been looking for a wash basin and jug for ages, I don't even need the stand but people think that they're worth almost $200.00! .. I'm still looking and will keep looking at the local junk shops, I need a few of them!

I feel the same way.... I miss both of my grandmothers so much. I love using their things, like canning equipment, etc. The ordinary daily things... I have my granma's recipe box- that is, to me, the best kind of inheritance. I also have my grandma's old treadle sewing machine that she traded 3 of her RIR hens for.

Me too! Well, sorta. I have my grandma's Singer sewing machine and cabinet, and her beloved crochet needles. The only time I ever saw her without crochet needles in her hands was when she was cooking, and I have her cookbooks too! Funny how 17 years doesn't fade the memories one bit.

Sorry to hijack the post...didn't mean to. This just brought back alot of memories on a very sad day.

I bought an antique collapsible basket like I remember my grandma using. All my life I dreamed of doing things just like she did and now I'm finally doing it and not even out of my 30's yet, LOL. I'm just a simple person and love the way my grandparents did things.
