Egg bound and prolapse

She porlapsed again during the night but she pooped everywhere and isnt straining anymore. I am going to withhold food and just giver her water with vitamins for a couple days so that she doesnt keep pushing it out every time she has to poop. I am going to keep trying. She is my husbands favorite. She is hanging out and making a mess of our shower for now. Good thing we are going to remodel it soon.

I'm sure you have read up on treating prolapse, but giving her some extra Calcium may help her contract and hopefully contain the prolapse. You can give a crushed Tums or dissolve the Tums in a little water and syringe it into her. If you have liquid Calcium that would also work. Just a thought.

I do hope she recovers - I can see why she's favorite.

Keep us posted.

I knew calcium helps egg binding but I did not know that about the prolaps. I have calcium/magnesium tablets. Is the magnesium ok?

Well she spent all day pushing it back out so tonight I got creative. Since she is only drinking water and having a small amount of liquid food her poop is pretty much water so i cleaned her up, pumped her full of hemorrhoid cream, dried her butt off and stuck a bandaid over her rear. Possibly one of the weirdest things I have ever done. It worked for now. She is still straining but can't push the prolaps back out due to the bandaid. Oh the things we do for our pets... er... I mean chickens

LOL

Let us know how that works.

I was hoping I still had this link - I have so many things saved you never know when you need it - this lady made a prolapse sling of sorts - I think she used vet wrap - it still allows for pooping

Just a thought.

Thanks for the article. I have vetwrap on hand so I will try that in the morning. For tonight she will have to deal with bandaid butt since my extra pair of hands is asleep already.
