Hi all,

11 month old buff orp, organic layer feed, free choice oyster shells, free choice grit. Flock of 9 hens, 1 cockerel, no prior issues except this egg situation. Very spoiled birds, lots of attention, enrichment, healthy snacks.

This buff had an healthy egg removed last Monday by a vet-- there was a membrane blocking it. She had been lethargic, tired, pale comb, sitting a lot for a day. Fast forward: the egg is removed, she feels great! But she is still not laying, despite showing egg laying behavior (hung out in the box for an hour this morning)

No straining, no penguin walk, no sitting, no lethargy, pooping fine, eating fine. energetic, red comb.

To check for an egg, this morning, I felt 1-2 inches (after a 15 min warm Epsom bath, with latex gloves on, with mineral oil) into the vent to see if I could feel an egg. I don't. To be fair, it's the first time I've done such a thing, but I gently felt around and truly felt nothing hard.

Given the lack of symptoms and feeling an egg, maybe she is not egg bound at this time? Or could be soft egg in there, I guess?

I have lots more context to provide to see if anyone responds or is interested in helping.

I've posted a few times about this beloved bird :https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...gg-binding-in-buff-orp.1573701/#post-26732981

You could try and give her a calsium pill, I have a hen who was prone to getting egg bound and after her near death experience I have her calsium pills first 400 mg a day when she was at her worst and then 400 mg every other day and now 200 mg every other day. That has worked great for me and I haven’t had any issues since😊
Also remember to give her time and know that it’s normal that she won’t lay right after she was egg bound. Some hens do and some don’t, mine waited for about a month ti begin laying again.
Also it’s really good that you gave her a epson salt bath I would give her some calsium to be on the safe side😊

Thank you! super helpful. She is on some prescription calcium gluconate from the vet so hopefully that's helping. I didn't know it could be that long!
