hey guys. One of my Isa Browns is either eggbound or has some sort of perintonitis...she has that hump on her back, tail down and lethargic. I checked her vent and there was a bit of what looked and felt like water, not slimy like an egg white, and she hasn't passed any shell or anything. Another thing- the hump comes and goes. She was okay this morning, tail was back up, and she was scratching around with the other girls. I found an egg, not in the box that had like a white film on it...not wet..almost like there was a new egg shell forming over the brown one. I have a picture of the egg and I'll take a pic of Luna in the morning and post it. I'm going to Vaseline her vent tomorrow morning as well. :(

She might be suffering from a reproductive disorder such as internal laying or others. I have a hen who lays very few eggs, and she has laid a couple with that sort of mineral deposit on her eggs, then stops for long periods. I have always suspected a laying disorder. Here is some reading about eggs:

Huh...that article was super informative! Thank you! This morning I got an egg, I'm guessing from Luna, that was almost transparent the shell was so thin, but it was hard, so I know there was some calcium on it. I switched the food from medicated starter to layer feed with oyster shell...could the oyster shells be doing this? Getting too much? How do I regulate which hen eats how much of the oyster shells? I'll post a picture of the thin egg tonight when I'm home.
