Egg Bound?? Postmortem showed more than a litre of water in Bowel??

Wow I dont know enough about chicken anatomy to decipher that one. I hope you can figure it out, at the very least I hope the rest of your chickens remain happy and healthy!

Hi Flockmaster,

Thank you for replying, i don't know enough about what i was looking at to say, i traced the tubing from the large bag back to a connecting point with what i would have said was the collection point of where the uterus and the bowel came together. But i don't really know.

I did note that there was another little pouch about the size of my little finger from tip to first knuckle that had what looked like it may have been grey poo.

Just to confuse things, the smallest of the 3 bags that were full of water had creamy stuff in swirling around in it, she had been pooing a white/creamy cream along with small bits of grey poo, another reason why i thought this balloon was her bowel.

I still have her in the fridge, if there is something you want me to look for with some guidence i could still do so.

I haven't had any success in finding an anatomy of a chicken, on the web, only one in Dutch, not much help.

She hadn't been eating and wasn't drinking unless i forced it down her, so i can't say where her intestine is, as there won't be anything in it, and i didn't see anything that looked like yes thats what that is, and as for the oviduct i defiently would need more guidence.

I really appreciate your help and would love to get to the bottom of this.

Regards Maxine

Goodmorning Flockmaster,

I can but unfortunately i punchered the bag in order to find out just how much water was in the bags, but i can lay it all out, and let you see what i'm talking about, if you think that will help. these bags were so heavy that i couldn't move the chook once they had flopped out onto the bench and i was scared that at any moment they would burst. they were glosmear/see through with small veins running through them. 1 litre = 100ml = 4 cups of water, put that in a ballon and you will see what i was dealing with.

Morning again, Sorry the pictures didn't load until i had finished my last reply so i didn't see them, looking at the diagram showing the Coaeca looking like a large 3 pronged fork, that is what was full of water, it explains the 2 bags each side of the very large bag, what is the middle stem with the 2 Coaeca each side? It was the middle stem that was the largest bag.

The three pronged fork is the small intestine/large intestine and the two cecal pouches.

It seems very odd that the intestine would have that much water, but I'm no expert, lol. Very interesting, though. I'd love to see pics.
