Egg Bound / Prolapse

I just watched the follow up video, and she ended up having to put the chicken down a week later, because the same thing happened again.... :(
Yes, I do recall seeing that. There was a similar case recently on this forum where the egg was finally gotten out, but the prolapse stayed out. Let us know how she gets along.

Read this article: https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...ent-prolapse-oh-my-what-to-do.76124/#comments , and gave her 3 calcium citrate with d3 pills (600mg) last night and will continue today. No prolapse visible, although I know she has an egg in there.. She did poop a few times during the night. Got her to eat a bit of yogurt and strawberries, and it looks like she is starting to peck at them on her own and also her feed. Thinking about taking her outside and putting her with the other 3 hens for a bit to see if it perks her up. If I have an lead hen, she is it, and she may be happier out there. She was making some noise this morning about being cooped up!

She tried to lay the egg again today and prolapsed again. I am about to try seeing if there is an opening I can get the egg out. I really don't want her to suffer, and I don't want to cull, but will do what needs to be done....

There was no opening. We decided to cull. I cried like a baby. Sitting out in the run with my other 3 chickens right now. Who knew I would love them so much? They are just such a simple, pure joy. Thanks to my wonderful husband for doing the awful deed quickly and efficiently and to my daughter for helping me try to help Ava. (Avasarala)
