I have young buff Orpington who I believe has a prolapsed vent with and egg in it. Seen lots of websites and videos on addressing a normal prolapsed vent but not one with an egg in. Any ideas. Photo attached

First give some calcium, about 600 mg orally. Use calcium citrate with D3, other calcium tablet, liquid, or a Tums. That can help muscle contraction with egg binding and prolapse. There should be a tiny opening somewhere on the bulging mass that is the oviduct. Try to find it and massage the egg out. If oil helps, use it. A vet familiar with chickens would be ideal, but you may not be able to wait. This video may help although it is hard to see the opening:

Be sure to keep the prolapse moisten with oil or vaseline, so it doesn’t dry out. The vet might be able to make a tiny incision, and pull the egg out, then push the vent back inside. Let us know what happens.

Hi all, just an update. Unfortunately with the egg in the prolapse and some of the tissue looking infected the vet thought the best thing was to euthanise her. She went peacefully. RIP Goldy
