Egg Bound Question

I recently heard of this for the first time, and wonder if this is a common problem? Does it affect certain breeds more than others?

It's fairly common, but there are so many factors to consider, such as prolapsing, size of eggs, age, amount calcium in diet...so many things that can affect risk of egg binding.

It seems to affect the breeds which lay larger eggs and lay for a long time. The more eggs they lay, the bigger the risk, I'd say.

Making sure the hens have a good layer feed and plenty of oyster shell/egg shells is the best preventative measure.
