Hello,
Today is Sunday for reference ahead...
On Thursday and Friday my hen layed as normal herself but the eggs had blood on them - we thought this may just be a small cut internally which may heal.
On Saturday she was very separate from the other 8 in the flock, her vent was swollen and she was struggling to pass waste.
I separated her from the flock and my dad and I did a little research, most saying to try giving her a warm bath and massage her abdomen- which we did for half an hour before leaving her in the separate pen next to a heated to rest. An hour later we tried again, coating her vent and passage with vegetable oil before bathing and massaging her again - we could then see that the egg was very close, we wrapped her up in a towel and she had a contraction so my dad assisted her and the egg was finally passed. It seems that she is still having problems with waste and possibly another egg today. If you have further tips including a temporary change in diet etc it would be really helpful!
if this information is helpful, her name is April and she was born around November/December 2019 - her diet is layers pellets, oyster shell grit and grains as a treat.
Thanks,
Chloe
