Just wanted to make sure that she is egg bound. And ask for help on how to get it out. I was told that it is an egg membrane that is stuck.

My pullet had a similar issue with a shell-less egg. She kept trying to pass the membrane and couldn't. But my girl's backside was a mess of yolk and albumen! For my hen, extra calcium and repeated soaks in warm water helped. She was able to pass it and get back to normal.

Yes she has been pooping but not a lot, she is a year and 3 months old. I found it yesterday. She passed some of it this morning, but a piece of the membrane is sticking out. I am giving her a tums for calcium, I fixed her an egg with egg shells in it but she won't eat it.

Have you tried soaking her yet? It helped my Iris a lot.

Yes I soaked her as long as she would take it and I massage to her abdomen. And she has not peed or pooped since she had some of the egg come out. I have giving her water and rice cereal with tums mixed in. But I am having to give it to her in syringe with no needle.

Oh dear. My girl felt rotten and didn't eat much (if at all) for about 2 days. She did eventually snap out of it once the whole mess was out. I'm wondering if you could get it out with a gloved finger? I don't want to give bad advice, though...

Is her vent dry on the inside? The soaking in some warm water and epsom salt should help too. (As gross as it sounds) put a bit of ky on your finger and run it around the outside and inside of the vent to make sure it's not too dry. If it is dry, it can lead to a prolapsed vent, meaning the vent will turn inside out when the egg comes out and will hang out like a big pink blob. Same thing to fix, bit of ky on the finger and gently push it back in. If their diet is too low in calcium or too high in protein, it will cause them to bind.

I second everything jduke & Aunt Angus said - would also like to add that dehydration can be a cause of binding, particularly in summer.

Please keep us posted!
