My chicken was walking around slowly and has a history of being egg bound so out of precaution I took her inside and did an epsom salt bath soak. I could tell she was straining to push something out. After about an hour and a half, I was finally able to feel a soft shelled egg inside her, which we got out. She was still acting uncomfortable so I stuck my finger inside again and there was a broken soft shelled egg (I got the whole shell out) and yolk from the broken egg, which drained out. I gave her calcium citrate + d3, what else can I do to help? She’s seeming more like herself but it’s nighttime so hard to really see her activity level. Her crop is full but feels like a normal full crop. I would love to see her pass normal droppings but I haven’t yet. She was really not having being put in the crate so I put her in the coop with her flock and she seemed at ease there. I’m hoping I got everything out, but what can I do to help prevent this going forward? They do have free access to oyster shell.

I would continue to give her the CC+D3 for 5 to 7 days. Apparently some hens cannot absorb the calcium from the oyster shell effectively without the D3 and the tablets sometimes seem to "reset" their system or "jumpstart" them if I may speak so unscientifically ... or so it has seemed to work on my hens. But take my advice with a 50-lb block of salt, I'm not that knowledgeable.
