egg bound?

I recently lost a hen and I think she could have been egg bound. I had 2 silkies and did not no the sex. I started to get a egg once or twice a month but didn't know who it was. My husband found one of the chickens dead. I never received another egg after she passed so the other is a rooster. Could the hen have been egg bound? I just recently started raising chickens. Can this be prevented and what are the warning signs ?

She could have died from many thing, I wouldn't focus on one potential cause. Sometimes chickens just die and without an autopsy you can only guess at the reason. Most sick birds, even those that are egg bound will become hunched and sick looking. They will stop eating and drinking and they will often isolate themselves.

The hen looked normal to me, but like I said I am new to this. Thank you

Chickens can look fine one day and are dead the next. I suspect they had heart attacks.
