Egg bound

How do you check if a chicken is egg bound? Do you literally put a glove on and feel around the inside of their vent? I have a 1.5 yr old gold Laced Wyandotte. She hasn't laid in like 3 days now. She eat and drinks, her comb and waddle are still red. We're in Southern Texas but she had been laying daily. Can high heat make them skip several days?

Unless she is acting ill, out or sorts, or you have a good reason to think she's egg bound, there is no reason to stick your finger into the hen's vent.

@lazy gardener she doesn't look sick, she still walks around and digs in the dirt looking for bugs but it seems like she lays around quite a bit (maybe from the heat which is constantly around 100) it's just concerning me that it's been 3 days.

Chickens dont pop out a egg everyday.Just because she inst laying means she is egg bound.The heat could be taking a toll on her.Three days is nothing to be concerned about.

Hens that are egg bound usually start showing signs of lethargy and the drooping of the abdomen.Providing fresh oyster shells will help prevent them from becoming egg bound.

@MasterOfClucker awesome thanks! That makes me feel better! I do put oyster shells in the run, I don't know how much she's actually eating though
