This morning I came out to the coop to see my Orpington hen looking like the pictures below. She hasn’t been acting super lethargic or anything but I’m worried she’s eggbound. Any thoughts?

Any thoughts?
Egg bound hens *usually* go into the lay box and try to lay the egg, in my experience. When was her last egg?

I would consider checking her crop to see if it's full and hard, empty and flat, or full and squishy. I would do this now and again the following morning before access to food and water if no improvement is seen throughout the day. Making sure there isn't a crop blockage and monitoring her food and water intake/appetite today. Is she still coming for her favorite treats? Is she drinking excess amounts of water? Is she pooping? What is her age?

Others are still up in the roost.. possible she was just still sleeping?

I'd probably also want to do a check for parasites and see if she has angry red skin below her vent and on her abdomen. Her feathers are looking a little rough.. but that could also be from standard grooming or wear and tear, depending on age.

Thank you for your response! This hen hasn’t laid an egg in a pretty long time, which I believed was due to the season change. She’s still going after treats and pooping, and I checked her vent. Everything is fine there.

I think her feathers are like that because the rooster picks at her sometimes. She’s about a year and a half old.

At first I just thought she was cold, but I was a little concerned by the way her hind end was bent down and the way she was closing her eyes. I gave her a warm ebsom salt bath and separated her in a smaller coop just in case.
