if a chicken is "egg bound" (large swollen mass below her vent) what do you do?
If your hen is egg bound you can try soaking her in warm water for about 20-30 minutes. The warm water relaxes them, allowing them to pass the egg. While soaking you can, very gently, massage the abdomen in the direction of the vent. (Gently, so that the egg does not break inside her).
When you take her out of the water, blow dry her until dry (they usually love this) and keep her inside in a quiet place where you can keep an eye on her. Make sure she has calcium, not just for the egg shell but because her muscles need it for pushing out the egg.
When did she last lay?
