Egg bound

Well crap...I don't think it's an egg! It's a big muscle lump. I pressed hard and it did not break. :-(

A neighbour had to break the egg of a hen who could not lay it. She used a crochet hook, and it worked better than a straight instrument because she could catch and tug the egg out with it.

I have a large wire dog crate that I use for my chickens when they aren't feeling well. It enables me to set a space heater up and adjust the temp. so that they are comfortable.

I found with my Polish that the other chickens were pecking at her vent area, making it bloody.

Are you pressing from the outside, or interior? If your eggs are anything like mine, you can throw them across the yard, watch them bounce and they don't break!

I have her in the house now and she is panting a little like she is hot. she hasn't been sleeping in here.
I'm in south Louisiana and when I need to, I keep mine in the garage with a space heater. I am not able to have them in the house. I have not had any problems this way. However, please keep in mind I'm in south Louisiana, usually more mild temps.

Have you felt internally for an egg yet?

im in alabama and, no I haven't done that yet. but she has all the symptoms. she is going to the nest and sitting a long time. she is standing around, wants to pick at her back end ALOT, and waddles somewhat. I have put mineral oil in her bottom and she wants to push I have been using a small syringe.
