I have her in a hospital crate and when I let her out she doesn’t move too much but she’s scratching normally. Her stance isn’t effected. She can still perch on my arm and today she flew on top of the crate while I was drying her after an epsom bath.

I'm not a vet, but she doesn't sound like she needs draining to me. I used to only drain my internal layer when she would start waddling and have trouble getting to her roost.

Does your hen stop eating when she’s that full? That’s the part that has me considering it.

She would eat less due to discomfort but never completely stop and would always take treats...

I would guess your hen isn't eating because of whatever is going on with her reproductive system. For whatever reason issues laying can really put a hen off food. I might try torpedo feeding (https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...eeding-what-is-it-and-when-to-use-it.1532744/) to keep her strength up while she hopefully recovers and get her appetite back. You could also look into natural remedies like acv water or a little bit of garlic to help her appetite.

Thank you for your response. She likes the rice I prepared today. I torpedoed some scrambled eggs yesterday. Continuing to do the best I can and waiting and seeing. Gave the vet and update and asked about their opinion on draining. We will see. She’s still bright eyed walking and flying up on top of her crate as of this AM.

I’m concerned to drain when she is already dehydrated (comb got floppier yesterday but retained normal color). If I do decide to drain it seems it might be best to force fluids. I read over a cup is advised which seems like a lot to eye drop in. As I said before she did resume drinking on her own when I switched to sugar water from electrolyte.

I did use the dropper to get about 4ml in before I thought to switch to the sugar water.

If she's able to fly, perch and is scratching about, stance is unaffected, then she likely does not need drained.
Any bird that I've had with fluid in the abdomen would have a depressed and hunched look about them, tail down, wouldn't be able to perch or fly.

Hopefully she will come around and begin to eat/drink better once the medication starts working. I'd still consider giving something besides Tylan.

Home from work. Genny is still kicking. Seems to have plateaued which ya know is still better than the vets and my expectations. They said I could drain her if I felt like it’d make her more comfortable. From others advice I’m not sure I should since she’s chickening pretty decently. Her tail carriage is mostly up but also neutral at times. She doesn’t seem to eat of drink much unless I’m holding it in front of her which isn’t great because I do have other responsibilities….. as much as id love to baby her every minute of the day. Her comb is not as red but it’s sort of hard to say because she does have some healing frost bite at the top which was discolored before all this. Ugh. Biggest concern is the floppiness of her comb which has never happened before this (suspect dehydration). Attaching a picture I took yesterday. She’s so pretty. After losing my other favorite hen this spring I was sad I didn’t take more pictures.

Additionally I asked the vet about if amoxicillin might be more helpful. But I always have to play phone tag with the receptionists and wait for a response. I feel bad asking so many questions when they were so good about not charging me much maybe I’ll bring them some nice treats for putting up with me.
