Egg cartons on lockdown?

Oh great news.......Thanks......I have mixed hatches in my incubator.......I got crazy.....Oops.....lol
All my eggs are seeming to be doing great....Some Chicken, most are Ducks....Quack...lol.........

I have them separated and dated with Straws as corrals to keep things in order.......So it is fine to let them hatch on the side...Very good to know....How do I do this with other hatch dates?.....I totally confused myself by getting so excited with the eggs.....Also I turn the eggs 4 times a day.....too much?

Cheers!
Another thing I was told and not sure of with a mixed incubation is I CAN SPRITZ MY EGGS DUE TO HATCH? Hope that makes sense?

Keeping those eggs moist to help with the hatch once they try to break free of the shell......So CONFUSED......lol

@chickens really

For me personally a staggered hatch is a no no as there are risks with doing this and it's a real catch 22 situation. Having the high humidity for hatching can put your other eggs at risk as they need lower humidity to be able to lose enough moisture for the air cell to grow adequately so the chick can safely pip into it to learn to breathe oxygen. But if you dont have the humidity high for the eggs that are about to hatch this can risk them becoming shrink wrapped in the egg. The ideal situation would be to have another incubator to move the eggs that are ready to hatch into.
Do you have your eggs in a turner or are you hand turning? At lockdown you will still need to turn your other eggs and opening the incubator many times can cause the chicks to become shrink wrapped in the egg as the humidity fluctuates. This may or may not happen there is no way to tell for sure but the risk is there.
Also you will need to clean the incubator out when your first batch has hatched as the bacteria from the hatch gunk and debris could be a risk to your eggs that are still incubating.

I spoke with
@Sally Sunshine

She advised my to pop my other eggs under my Broody and remove the Chicks as they hatch...I will try that with the staggered ones and dispose of the newest ones I put in...All I really want to hatch right now are my Duck eggs.....
I hand turn my eggs......

Thanks........Lots to learn........

Sounds like a plan with your broody, just like having another incubator

Good luck with your eggs

I have the random eggs under my Broody hen in the garage....What a time I am having....My one hen is Broody but will not sit on eggs....I then ran out and brought in the other Broody and she is loving all the eggs....So far so good.....In the incubator I only kept the eggs that are set to hatch within days of each other......Meaning two days........Glad I started this in the winter so once spring really comes and I want to hatch again, I WILL KNOW ALL THE DOS AND DONTS....lol........

Thanks....Greatly appreciated to yourself and Sally Sunshine.......

Cheers!

Quote: I candled these remaining Duck eggs and sadly it looks as though only one egg will hatch.....Baby is bouncing around and the others appear to have stopped developing?........Should I toss out these others I have in THE INCUBATOR?......I think I should be seeing more cells or an embryo at this late stage......?.....I do have the others with the Broody hen and will let her settle and Candle those on Sunday night.......I have learned so much in two days talking with you my head hurts!....lol

Again totally appreciated!

Oh goodness it sounds all go there for you! :th

If you are totally sure the others have stopped developing/quit then yes I would toss them. Is there no movement to be seen in them at all? I only ask as I've read many posts where the eggs were suspected quitters only to be cracked open and healthy embryos have been found. I know I have candled before thinking eggs are either clear or quit only to find at the next candling that they are all good.

What day are the eggs on and what breed of duck?
