Egg cartons...styrofoam or paper?

I have been told that Styrofoam egg cartons harbor bacteria if they are reused, is that true? I am new to chickens and have several Styrofoam containers. I would think it would be true of the paper cartons being that they can't really be washed.

I usually use paper that's my preference

Styrofoam containers don't absorb water I don't think, so if you don't fully dry them it could possibly go moldy maybe? I'm not sure tho
