Interestingly, I've read elsewhere that if eggs with too much moisture in them are rolled around in the bator, there's a high chance of the chicks drowning. The recommendation was to place them in cartons specifically to prevent this happening. Who knows which one is more correct?
If you have the rest of your incubation procedures sorted out, can hold a steady and correct temperature for the whole incubation, and can get your eggs to lockdown having lost the correct amount of moisture, I don't think cartons will improve your hatch rate in the slightest. They just make for a tidier hatch, that's all.
