Egg cells slant good but no signs of movement

IMO this forum is where everyone should come for all their peafowl needs.

Awesome!! I by no means meant BYC! When I first was deciding if I wanted to keep chickens, BYC was the second website I found and I never left! I meant "google". I keep finding sights that simply say to put them in a brooder with food and water. I know they are delicate birds and I want to do everything good for them that I possibly can. I love the info I find I here! It's what's gotten me this far! So I will continue to read! Thank you!

1) I weigh mine to make sure they are gaining enough weight. Later today I'll post a weight chart.
2) When to worm them depends on when their feet first touched soil and your soil conditions. The wormer I like is Safeguard.
3) The ones I can't live without are Corid, Safeguard, Metronidazole and Baytril.

Great! I'd love a chart! I didn't weigh them at birth because I wanted to give them a chance to rest. But I weighed them 24 hrs after. And thank you for the medicine list. I hope I never need it but if I do, I'd like to know I have it on hand! As far as letting them hit soil...waiting as long as possible seems best, is that correct? Thank you!

I will weigh them again tomorrow and take action if any have lost weight (except for the newly hatched, they will drop to about 10-15 grams over the next few days. All but the bottom 3 or 4 should gain weight.

Great! Thank you! I saved it in my photos. I'm surprised because the one that looks the biggest does not actually weigh the most. But I will expect them to lose some weight before gaining. Maybe do my next weigh-in one week from birth?

I clean brooders on Wednesday and Sunday. While I'm cleaning the chicks go on the screened in back porch. I have the scale and a notebook out there - as I take each bird out they get weighed and recorded. At first it's hard to get them to stand still on the scale, but after a few weeks they are so comfortable with it they'll stand there as long as I want.

I don't do anything fancy with the data, just check for regular weight gain. I've found my eyes deceive me with chicks' weight, sometimes ones I thing are gaining really aren't. The scale is never fooled!

It looks like my little pea that I assisted at hatch is getting a little imprinted on me. I have 3 all together but he will walk to the end of the brooder and cry loudly for me. The others don't, just him. I took him out last night and he nuzzled up in my hair and fell asleep. So cute! I don't want to stress him by handling him to much. But I think he's wanting me too. How much can you hold them? They are all eating really well. Their staple is medicated chick starter. For treats I'm giving fermented gamebird starter and plain Greek yogurt. Does that sound good? Oh and I gave them a couple live mealworms I bought at the pet store. They liked them! And they started flying today!! 4 days old and one flew out of the brooder! I made a screen cover out of hardware cloth and some wood trim after it happened! Exciting times with my babies! How is everyone else's babies doing???

Peachick #1 died this morning

Everyone appeared to be doing well. I had put the 7 Peachicks into a larger brooder just yesterday with my first hatched Peachick at 17 days old... They all have been eating and drinking and I thought doing well...
Anyway I was up around 1:30 this morning and noticed that the babies were all up moving around eating and drinking except #1 yet before I went back to bed even he got up and got a bite to eat and laid back down... Well I got up this morning 4:45 or so and my little guy was stretched out dead..???
I don't know what happened and here I thought everyone was doing great??
To me, all the others do appear to be doing well but who knows? They are active..eating, drinking, pooping, talking, ??? Maybe he had issues I wasn't aware of but thought he made it past being two weeks old ??? Just breaks my heart...

I'm so sorry to hear that!! It seems like peachicks are never really out of the clear. I keep reading about one problem or another with them. What's scary is that he gave you no warning signs that he was sick! There must have been a deeper issue going on. I've read of an internal infection that they get from the umbilical cord spot. It's on the inside and takes a couple weeks to spread. Maybe that happened? I'm so very sorry!!!

Yeah I just don't know... Bad to say but glad it didn't happen to one of the Peachicks I bought yet it still bothers me that one got this far then died with no warning....
I'm trying!

Were you weighing them? Was he gaining weight?
