I have golden comets that are nine months old now. I have noticed they have a higher white to yolk ratio than store bought eggs. The
yolks are also orange with quite a bit of integrity. They are creamier than regular eggs but sometimes I think they are bland. Maybe I am being overyly critical since they are my eggs. I know diet plays an important role but was wondering if some breeds lay eggs that are truly tastier than others? For instance I was told that quail eggs have a sweet taste. Do some breeds have a higher yolk to white ratio and vice versa? I feed Purina Layena and give them just enough scratch to get them from one place to another or engage them for a little while. They get greens, apples, brocolli for a treat in the late afternoon. The grass is pretty much nill right now. Is there something I can feed them to produce a tastier egg or should I up the greens to twice a day.

i feed mine warm oatmeal in the winter cold

I free range mine and often they spend what seems like all day in the horses' dung heap rootling about for dung beetles and other bugs. They also love slugs, worms and caterpillers. I feed them cat food mixed with oatmeal as a treat and they go mad for that too. My customers all tell me that their eggs are the tastiest eggs they've ever eaten and ask me what I feed them.
