Egg chirping but not hatching DAY 23... HELP

Ok, most of my hatch pipped and were out of their eggs day 21. I had one late arrival on day 22. I was about to throw away the last remaining egg this morning but it was chirping and wiggling around. I thought for sure it was dead because it was chirping yesterday and had not pipped through out the night.

My question is, do I just let it go and see if it pips? Or should I pip and help it out?

I had one this morning, also day 23, that had a tiny crack in the shell and I was hearing chirping. So I sterilized a dental pokey-thing and flicked off a section of shell for her. I saw a bit of blood on the membrane so stopped right there and put her back into the bator. She hatched herself out about four hours later and she's an energetic, healthy little toughie.

i normally crack the top where the air cell is and slowly go from there so i dnt risk hitting veins on the membraine. it could be stuck. it help it

I'd help it out. The air cell is at the TOP of the egg (large end). That is were you should start. Never start at the bottom as there are lots of blood vessels down there. Be sure to keep the membrane wet with warm water as you go. If you see blood, stop immediatley, wrap the egg in a wet towel and place it back in the incubator for a bit. Good Luck!

I had to cull the poor thing this afternoon. I hatched it out and it just laid on its side. It's right leg was positioned by its head and it's abdomen was a dark color. After twenty four hours of staying in the bator and not moving from its side, I decided to cull. I have no idea what was wrong with it. Any guesses?

The longer the incubation period, the more the chicks grow. Your chick may have grew so much (because of the long incubation) causing him to become deformed. Too bad you lost him. It really is hard losing those little critters.
