I'm just curious on this. I sent some eggs to someone and very sadly the post office broke them and returned them to me for "repacking"

How I am to do that when all the kings horses and men can't do that????

Anyway, not all the eggs were broken. There was egg, looked scrambled to me, that had gotten on all the eggs. They returned the box in a plastic bag with a note of apology. In the bag because egg was leaking all over.

Is it possible for the eggs to be ok if cleaned? Or with that permeable shell would they still make the house stinky because of the broken egg? I tried putting an egg with egg on it in to hatch and all it did was become stinky (one from Gypsy's nest when I brought her numbers down).

I have thrown the entire box out, so this is just for my own info. 16 of the eggs were from my EEs. I had happened upon one of my girls' nests and found 13 eggs, I left her one. So this was not something that I could easily repeat in sending. Yes, several of them would have been too old, however, a lot would have been ok had this unfortunate thing not happened.

I'm so mad/sad that happened.

Try insuring shipped eggs. Wonder if THAT would make the postal workers more careful of packages marked "FRAGILE"?

I read somewhere that the water you clean them with needs to be warmer than the temp of the egg. I use a very dry, damp paper towel if the eggs are too awfully dirty, and they do ok.

With everything they sound like they went thought at the PO I dont think cleaning would of been worth it !!

I just dont understand the problem with the way the PO handles boxes !! They were marked FRAGILE right ?

I think marking them FRAGILE just makes it worse- kind of like painting a big bullseye on it!

Sorry you had to deal with this, hope it doesn't get you down for long!

what are the eggs for?
did you ship for them to hatch or something like that?
the remaining eggs if treated badly, shook terribly, etc. might not hatch. once out of your hands you never know what treatment they take. side to side thrashing etc. can scramble the yolks inside the eggs?

just wondering cause when handled rough...who knows if they are useful after other than to eat--
