I understand that generally the color of the earlobes will indicate the color of the egg. In the case of mixes, does that still hold true? I have some Partridge Rock X Leghorn mixes and would like to know if I can tell the color of the eggs before they start to lay. Or is one color a dominant trait?
Just curious....

The genes aren't linked, but there does tend to be a correlation between the breeds that have red earlobes and those that lay brown eggs; likewise with white earlobes and eggs. However, there are exceptions.

If you breed a white egglayer to a brown egglayer, chances are pretty high that you will get brown eggs, although they may be lighter in shade.
