We are having trouble deciding which eggs are coming from which hens. We specifically want to know which breed lays the dark brown eggs. Our original flock consisted of RIR, Black sex link, and ISA brown hens. We just hatched some chicks so now we really need to know which color eggs are coming from which hens. The darker brown eggs we originally thought were coming from our Rhode Island Red hens, but today we had 3 RIR chicks hatch from the light brown eggs, so we have ruled them out. So now it is either the black sex link hens or the ISA brown hens. We believe the Sex links are laying light pinkish brown eggs so we are leaning toward the ISA browns for the dark brown eggs? Any opinions?

I will guess ISA Brown lays slightly darker eggs. I got 3 black sex links and 7 RIR, non of them lays dark eggs. Since ISA Brown originated from France and we’re breds with multiple different breeds I suspect they have darker eggs than the former.

You can put a bit of food coloring in their vent and tell whose laying what. If you put blue( or whatever color you choose) in one hen and get an egg with that color smears on it you know exactly who the culprit is.
