Egg color variation

Wanted to share my experience with my colored egg layers since I’ve found varying stories online. I’ll be referencing the photo.

The left most egg & 3rd from left are from the same bird, a BCM. The 2nd & 4th from left are another bird, also a BCM. Both of their first eggs were the lightest and they continually got darker until they’ve reached the darker colors in the photo.

The middle 2 eggs are from a hybrid chicken who may be part Maran.

The 3 blue/green eggs are all from 1 Easter Egger, she normally lays very consistent colors these are the most different of all your eggs. And the last white one is just a Silkie egg, they’re always white or with a pinkish tint and little to no variation.

Depends on how you define variation. Blue and white eggs are the original color of eggs. Brown is just a coating that goes on top of blue or white eggs as the last step. Brown over blue is green and brown over white is just brown.

What I meant to say then is within a breed or specific color egger I wanted to show how egg colors can vary. Specifically that my BCMs got darker after they laid and help debunk any misinformation about Easter Eggers being able to lay radically different colored eggs with any frequency. Sure due to egg color and coatings there may be some days when the printer is out of ink but more or less, in my experience, color eggers are consistent.

One of my chickens has recently started laying. She is an Araucana X. She first laid a green eggs for a while. She is now laying blue eggs. I know both these eggs are from the same chicken. Interesting...

That happened to most if not all my EE hens. Their first few eggs were nice and olive and faded away over time. Now they are plain blue.
