Egg Color?

Wow. Coincidence?

I have a Buff Orp. Her name is Rose. She lays nearly every day. She lays a light brown egg with white calcium deposits on top. Her eggs are nearly round . Her eggs have never changed color, and I can always tell which egg is hers.

My Barred Rocks vary a BIT.

My Marans vary quite a lot but I can always tell their eggs.

Good luck.

And I am guessing Julia lays a different color...right? Just from what you told me I think congrats are in order and J.T. is now laying. But this is only from a few questions. Sometimes chickens do lay different colors but mostly by shades. I think if Rose were going to surprise you with a different egg she would have already done that by now. Hope that helps. You should see another one soon if J.T. is laying along with Rose's normal egg

Julia is a EE hen, she lays green eggs. Should I try locking J.T. up and see if she is laying eggs without me knowing it? I have lots of Buff Orpingtons that are laying, so it's hard to know is she is laying or not! Rose and Tweedy (Black Tailed Buff Jananese bantam hen ) are in a chicken hutch in the backyard and J.T. is in the main coop, now. That's how I can tell Rose's egg apart!!! She is SUCH A GOOD LAYER!!!

I can tell if I have a new layer (or laying in a week or less) by feeling their pelvic bones. The pelvic bones will spread apart before and will stay apart while laying. You can also tell if you keep her separate from the others for a day or two, which should not affect the pecking order.

Do you think I should just put her in a cage inside the main coop, I don't have any room in the hutch because I had to move a BO pullet in their to doctor her MITES! YIKES! The coop has a heat lamp. Would that work?

Rose has a hurt leg. it's getting better now, but that's why I had her in the hutch. Tweedy is SO SMALL she can go threw the wire in the chicken pen and get OUT! That's why I have tweedy in their. I'm waiting on her to get a little bigger! But it's not happening, though! And Sally ( BO pullet ) is in there because I'm doctoring her mites. So it's kind of crouded in there as it is! So I dunno where to put J.T.???

If you can you might be able to catch her in the act. Sorry to here about all the misfortune. I have a few bantams and know how easily they slip out of the wire. I have to use chicken wire about 1inch or less to keep them in.

and when they were chicks it seemed like they could get out of anything. I hate mites and sometimes they are hard to get rid of. Hope you get them all up and going.

I don't know how Rose got hurt? But she is on the mend now. I wish I could put J.T. in the hutch. The only thing is that she is pretty bossy and mean to the other choocks, so Rose and Tweedy didn't like J.T. being in there! LOL Oh, Rose has been doing something kind of weird! She makes souds like a ROOSTER???? Like when they roosters are trying to lur the hens to food or into a good nesting spot, that's the sound she makes? I HAVE TO IDEA WHY SHE IS MAKING THIS NOISE? Did she "adopt" Tweedy for her baby???
Or is she just trying to lur Tweedy to some goody that she has found?
