What happened to egg color in brown egg breeds of show chickens ? When I was a kid brown eggs were much darker than now. I had white rocks some of my eggs were like a medium maran eggs . Now all I can get are hens that lay near white or cream colored eggs .

I hate to go to a maran to get dark eggs . Think I will breed a touch pf maran in my white rocks to get brown eggs. Then breed the maran out. I have tried several hatchries its all the same. Show stock is worse some of them lay white eggs . Ameracana chickens no longer have good green or dark blue eggs. Atleast I havent been able to find any. All I get is pale blue near white.

Things may be changing due to all the inbreeding going on. Not the same as the old days.

Great to have you aboard and enjoy BYC!

Welcome to BYC. When we breed to satisfy a physical standard and put that foremost, other qualities sometimes get overlooked.
