How fast do egg colors change?
I have a cochin and a Barred rock hen

For a few weeks I use to get very speackled eggs. Now they are all a nice solid color.
What decides how the eggs going to turn out and how long does it take to tranistion from speckled to solid?

Don't know what makes them speckled sometimes. Mine will occasionally get quite speckled (sometimes with white spots on the brown) but I don't know if it has anything to do with the laying cycle or not.
I'll be interested to see what other responses you get.

Someone told me it this way....it is kind of like ink in your printer. the more it is used the more even the color is on the page. Same with chickens. As a pullet starts to lay her ink jets are not warmed up therefore the speckled eggs...as she progresses throughout her life they get darker and darker then back to lighter and as she gets older they return to a mottled speckled color. Kind of made sense to me.

When my birds were pullets I got some speckled eggs. Now that they are older once in a great while I might get one with some speckles.
