If you are going to do a really mixed flock of different sizes and types I would brood them together if possible.

My blue ameraucana is a great layer and she is a tough chicken. She became very ill once, from an unknown toxin and pulled thru, eventhough the vet said she most likely wouldn't make it. She's a great forager too. I recommend them if you want the light blue eggs. I get about 5-6 eggs a week from her.

Easter Eggers, Olive Eggers, Whiting True Blue, Black Australorps sometimes lay pink eggs. Cuckoo Marans and Black Copper Marans lay extremely dark brown eggs.

I was reading more online and from what I can tell grey eggs come from a blue/green egg being pasted with a thick bloom over it (what makes white eggs pink or brown eggs purple like the croad lanshans)

My Easter Egger is a fantastic forager and lays a light/sky blue egg. My Speckled Sussex lays a light brown egg with a very pink tint. The Olive Egger is only a couple of months old, but I'm hoping she will give me a dark green egg.
