So I let my chickens brood on their eggs and sometimes I take them out. I had 2 hens brooding this time. When I woke up this morning everything was fine with them but I had to rush my 10 year old cat to the vet for health problems.

When I returned the neighbors dog had broken into the Nursery coop. While one of my hens lost 2 of her 10 eggs the other lost all or so I thought.

When I was cleaning up the mess from all these crushed eggs, like the dog didn't even eat any, I saw that one is missing almost all it's shell but somehow the sac wasn't busted and the chick is still moving!

I rushed it inside to my incubator and I'm hoping that there's some way this chick will live or if it'll just die after awhile?

I'll add a pic of how it looks.

How old is it? I think all you could do is keep the membrane moist with an oil, like coconut oil. Don’t wet it with water or wrap it in a damp towel. And maybe try to keep the humidity in the incubator at, at least 50%. I wouldn’t be too worried about the membrane breaking but rather it drying out and sticking to the chick.

How old? I have no advice but it will be an amazing save if you get it to survive! Keep us updated!

I believe it's around 18 days. I marked down when they were brooding and us moving them to the coop.

I'll wet it now!

I wouldn’t worry too much then. Just keep the membrane lathered in coconut oil. You’ll be able to see the veins once it’s on so don’t freak out. By day 21 if it hasn’t pierced the membrane, I would check the veins, they should be mostly receded and look like almost clear string, I’d then start removing the membrane bit by bit.

Okay, thank you! I hope it'll make it.
