Egg Delima

Thanks so much! I've never eaten them before! Lol I've heard you can soft scramble them and feed them back to the ducks..I thought about doing that for a little extra protein.

You can give them back to the ducks or dogs if you have any but that seems like a waste to me. Cook those puppies up and eat them yourself. They are excellent for baking and making everything extra fluffy. They are richer and rise more than chicken eggs and my kids love them every which way. I personally like them in omelettes and quiche along with every type of baking.

I agree! Eat them alllll! We haven't bought chicken eggs in months, and last week I fed breakfast to 12 people who have never eaten duck eggs before, and they couldn't tell the difference. They taste so close to a chicken egg, after eating them for a few months, I can't tell the difference. And my girls eat plenty of fish, worms, snails, and koi food, and I've never tasted it in the eggs.

Ok! Lol I'll give them a try! How long can they be left out in the pen before they aren't any good?? I will start getting them daily when she lays them but I'm curious if the ones that are already out there, that have been there few days are any good.

I wouldn't eat anything that has been outside in this heat for over a day. My daughter didn't gather the eggs today, so they sat outside for about 12 hours. That is about the maximum for me, but I am sure others have waited longer. They can last for a few weeks at room temp, but that is between 65-75 degrees. And look into washing them (or not washing them) I learned a lot about that here.

One more thing if you don't mind...I feed them dumor food from tractor supply, I give them worms as treats occasionally and they forage in the grass when I let them out of their pen, but what are some other things I can give them to change it up from just worms?? The pekin gobbles the worms down but the mallards don't seem too interested. Just for the heck of it I attached a pic of my little flock!

BTW Thank you both so much for all of your help!

What cuties. There is a list around here of duck treats. I'll see if I can find it. Peas are duck crack to my flock and even the chickens like it. Kale, lettuce, tomatoes, grapes, cheese and a few will eat banana. They don't really like peaches or apples (make sure there are no seeds in it). Citrus is a no-no along with avocados. Mine also go nuts over the little feeder gold fish.

You're welcome! Some of my ducks favorite treats are mealworms, corn on the cob (keeps them entertained for hours) watermelon, again, in the rind so they can dig it out, koi food, Cheerios, shredded garden veggies and tomatoes. They aren't too picky, between the six of them, someone will eat it. Here is my little flock!

@needlessjunk thank you so much for the list! I'll definitely check it out. Do I need to cut up the fruit & veggies? Do the peas need to be cooked or do you use canned peas?? I have read they like minnows also?? Do you put the fish in their pool/swimming area?

@jducour love how colorful your flock is!! I'm super jealous of your pretty pond set up!!! I love it! can I use the happy hen mealworm treats from tractor supply?? I'm from a small town and that's about the only "feed store/farm supply" I know of near me. I think they are just dried mealworms. Does the corn need to be boiled first? Thanks again!

Sorry for all the questions yall!! Im just trying to get all the info I can from experienced people and it sounds like yall are experts!
