EGG EATER!!!!

Mine are never locked in only in the winter they have several yards and 1 that is huge 60x60ft.I wonder if it has something to do with them accidently pecking it open as they scratch through the straw looking for seeds in it?I just started a couple of weeks ago.I noticed a couple eggs were yellow and I thought it was some running poo.Last nite I found 1 egg with a little hole in it thought maybe it got stepped on.Today I found one with the whole top off and most of the inside gone.I just have them on layer maybe I need to raise the protien level.I think I will do that.

When I was young, my Dad had a lot of chickens. It was my job to care for them, and collect/clean/& sell the eggs.

I don't know WHY I did it, only that maybe I wondered if chickens liked eggs as much as I did.

I cracked a few eggs onto the ground. There were lots of hens, and lots of eggs. I didn't think it would be a big deal to waste an egg or two. The chickens went wild for it. I cracked a few more...

The next thing I knew, they were cracking the eggs themselves. We NEVER got another egg before they did. The whole flock was ruined.

My Dad was so mad at me. I still remember the sting of THAT spanking.

Yeah - I think they really only do stuff like that when they are bored - today I ran after one who found a dead baby bird and she ran like heck until one of the other grabbed some from her and then off that one went........hope dead baby birds don't make for bad tasting eggs............
