egg eating hen

I beg to differ on your "not some frilly pattern" comment, David! My girls enjoy the variety of curtain patterns that I have for them. I change them every 3 days, and I find that it helps alleviate boredom. . . YEAH, RIGHT! HaHa!!! My egg eaters get moved to another coop, and if that doesn't work, out they go!!! Hope one of these suggestions works for you, Kimt. Egg-eaters are a real pain in the patoot!!

Change your nest boxes to roll away nest boxes.
I've had wonderful success with chickens not eating eggs after building roll away nest boxes like these (pics lower in post)...

I have never had a bird eat one of my eggs. Of course, none of them are old enough to lay yet!! (gotcha)

I had one egg eater, and I knew who she was. While I was implementing some of the above suggestions, I took a dremel tool and gently took the point off her beak, so it is now nice and rounded. (NOT de-beaked. Not down to blood or nerve, just took the point off!!!)
It helped. She could no longer get the shells opened, though she will still try, and occasionally one of her eggs will have a crack in the end.
Good luck.

Those are some nicely crafted rollaways, thats for sure. A little too nice for some of the chickens I know, but really nice nonetheless.\\
Thanks for the links.

I’ve read through the comments which were very informative. Although what I have seen is soft shelled eggs being torn into and no yolks. I have seen it four times now. They are new layers 6 months old. I’ve seen some weird behavior of the two. They are Jersey giants. It’s like they can’t make up there mind where they want to lay. And if one is in a nest the other one has to be in it with her. They act like they have to be together. Any ideas on what to do?

Are they your only birds?
Are both laying?
New layers can be rather neurotic at first.

Do you have adequate nests, easy to access?
Pics might help here.
A fake egg in each nest to spread the love and deter pecking.

Soft shells are not too uncommon with new layers.
What all and how exactly are you feeding?
