We have 5 chickens. One lays olive green colored eggs. Everyday one of the chickens eats this egg. Same colored egg everyday. Other colors are untouched. All eat same feed Purina layena pellets or crumbles. High in oyster shell. Any thoughts?

Its odd that they just eat that one egg. Better get it stopped before they start eating the rest. Best way I've found is take one of their eggs and blow it out, fill with yellow mustard, and put it back in the nest. Worked the very first time with a group of hens of mine that were eating egg really bad. They must hate yellow mustard.

Both the previous ideas are good. Anything to try to make them think that eggs are not good to eat. The trick is to break their cycle of eating the egg for just a couple of days and then they tend to stop. I had a hen who started eating her eggs and I has to watch her like a hawk for a few days and rush out there to take her egg before she could get the cha ce. After a few days she forgot about trying to eat them.

Also I had a hen who would stand up more when the egg came out and it would drop to the nest box floor with enough force to crack it. When the egg white started oozing out the hens couldn't resist eating it. Do you have enough bedding in the nestbox where the green egg is laid?
