egg eating

Are you sure shes eating the eggs ? I recently had a broody hen. She too was just under a year old and I decided to give her a chance at being a young mom. Gave her 12 eggs. After a few days I noticed her eggs were disappearing and I too thought she was eating her eggs. After about a week and a half I checked her again and she was down to only 5 eggs. I nearly threw them away and was going to break her but then I figured well its only a week and half so I'll just wait. Then on Sunday before she was due to hatch on Wednesday I was down near the chicken pen and noticed some young chicks I had separate were acting strange. I walked down there and there was a big ol black snake heading toward where Cinnamon was on her eggs. He never made it there. Figured there was no way she would hatch any eggs but waited to see. Sure enough on Wednesday she did hatch one little chick. Now I'm just hoping that little chick will be a pullet.
