Egg eating

Is this something she's just started doing? I found it helpful to put some golf balls/fake eggs in the nest boxes. The thinking being that after unsuccessfully trying to eat the golf balls/fake eggs and getting a sore beak they'd give up on the whole egg eating business.

Other means may be necessary to deal with the problem. I've seen a lot of good suggestions on previous posts discussing the same issue. (Try a search of "egg eating".)

Yes the golf balls and fake eggs help. I broke mine of egg eating by rearranging the coop to shake things up. Collected eggs frequently. Before I wasn't using nests so I added bucket nests. Others have suggested "curtains" in front of the nests to keep them darker. Also filling a blown out egg filled with mustard or horseradish. I think what helped me was getting on top of it ASAP, and the rearranging. Good luck.

Thanks, I have one hen that doesn't like the nest boxes. She layes in the dog house. Our dog don't care and doesn't bother the eggs. But if I don't get it as soon as she layes Ms. RIR gets it. I may have to put her upfor a while. Put her in time out.
