Greetings All!
This morning my son went out to gather eggs, and one of the NHR hens was on the nest. She jumped down from the nest box and started to walk away, with an egg half in and half out of her vent. My son reached down and gave a gentle tug on the egg, and it came out into his hand, with a blood spot on the shell about the size of a quarter.
We kept watch on her the rest of the day, and she seems to be alright. She stayed with the rest of the flock, didn't appear to have any difficulty eating or drinking. We will continue to watch her.
Any clues as to what's going on with her? Do I need to segregate her from the flock? Is this something that happens from time to time, or the beginning of something serious?
