EGG HANGING OUTSIDE VENT!!!

I ended up using gloves and alcohol and made a small incision where there was minimal blood vessels and rotated the egg and worked it out. I had to do something, she was in so much pain...she seems relieved now and we'll see how she does overnight. I used preperation H and gently worked everything inside. The egg was sideways and I wonder if that was the problem maybe the egg rotated. I have her seperated and I'll keep and eye on if anything starts coming out again. It was the best I could think of, there was no way that egg would have broke through that membrane and with it being sideways I couldn't push it back in. I will post updates on how she is doing.

Nice! Glad you got it taken care of! I hope she will be ok, and heals up! Whew, I did not realize it was that severe!

WOW - good for you for taking action! I hope she heals quickly!

Just curious - did the egg seem overly large? I know you said earlier that you weren't sure if it was her first egg - just curious if it seems like this was a problem due to the size of the egg or the hen's anatomy, or she is too small/young.

If it was her first egg then yes it was big. The egg was a little smaller than what my hens who have been laying.for.a couple weeks eggs are. Plus it was turned sideways. I do think it was her first egg cause I have never seen her in the nesting box. She is around 23 weeks old. Thanks for the support, I was so nervous I was about to cry

So big first egg, and not positioned right, well here is hoping her next egg is smaller, and facing the right way! Your quick thinking probably saved her! I was reading that the Prep H will help with any swelling she may have, so guess that is why people us it on a prolapse.

I wonder why there was no where for this egg to pass through that membrane???? I am going to read up some more on this!!!!

Lots to learn with keeping chickens!!!!

I would like to know that myself - why was it encased in a membrane? That's why I'm wondering if there's something wonky with her anatomy. Time will tell, I'm sure.

I really hope there's nothing wrong with her anatomy, she really is a sweet hen. I'm just hoping the next egg that comes will come out right.

I'm glad you pulled together the courage to try a risky but needed procedure. I'll bet seeing her relief felt so good.
I'm hoping things go well for her for the future!
