I think you made the right decision. I would open it more in a couple hours of there's still no progress, especially with the chirping quieter. Did you peel back any outer membrane?

just a little around where the beak was so i could get a really good look at the inner membrane and see how blood vessels looked. it's clear around the beak, still very wet inside. the little bit of blood was on the bottom of the egg, so i was thinking i will give it another hour and then peel back some more shell and potentially more membrane.


this little turkey is officially my longest external pip (by a landslide) and my longest internal to hatch, also by a landslide. and it's doing the least amount of work to get itself out that i've seen. it is breathing just fine though and doesn't appear to be in distress, i just don't think it's going to have any energy left to polish this off. hopefully it absorbed all the yolk sac and closed off its navel by now!

it's out! navel is the slightest bit open, but not enough to worry about. it was the most lackluster hatch i've seen so far! hard part is over, just gotta let it rest now and dry out and get some strength back. whew!
