I have three peafowl eggs that are hatching today. The first two piped and zipped in a hurry today over the course of an hour this morning. The third egg didn’t pip till two hours ago, and now has a breathing space hole but nothing the last two hours. My understanding is that usually goes faster. Do I need to be concerned? And if so what about. I am worried about him getting at this point? Am I worried for nothing?

I’ve had quail go 60 hours, be patient, the pip allows extra oxygen into the egg which the chick need to hatch or even just exist but often the umbilicus/yolk sack isn’t fully absorbed and until then hatching is disastrous! The need for extra air causes the pip reflex but the zip isn’t initiated until the chick is ready, it is hard to wait but you must! I’ve also had unpipped eggs hatch before zipped eggs, they go pip to zip in 20 minutes while another egg will take days or two hours to actually zip.

I am taking a big breath and waiting... wow, and i thought just the incubation was a hard wait. I have raised chicks before, but we had a local hatchery to get them from. Never from incubated eggs... this is a little like being stuck in labor and delivery...

Well I am quite a bit more worried now as this chick is half zipped and looks like yoke was oozing out where he had pipped. I am not sure he is breathing yet…

I have read everything here about assisted hatching and am prepared for that. Just need to know when to act. I move the other hatched chicks out so as not to bother the egg.
