Of course do the float test.
And of course crack it into a small bowl before throwing it in the cake.
But If the egg has been outside in a cool shady spot for a week, I bet it's still good.

Refrigeration is a good idea but eggs are fine for a few days a room temperature. You can eat a two month old egg if you kept it pretty cold.
