Hi
I am new to incubation. I have 6 eggs in an incubator we are on day 22. I have one egg that pipped at day 18 and released some of its yolk. We could hear one peeping and suspect it was that one. But haven't heard it since yesturday morning. I am a bit worried that it may have starved to death. As they are ment to absorb the yolk are they not?? Is there anyway of checking. Any advice much appreciated.

Usually before they come out of the egg but after they peep they will be quiet for a while, soaking up the rest of the blood and yolk before they unzip. The chick dying while hatching is a possibility

, but it could be fine too. If alive, it should finish hatching soon.

We checked them this morning. The egg we thought it was seems to be still intact. An egg beside it however had started to hatch but at the bottom so we cud nt see any sign of it from looking in incubator. Poor wee thing didn't survive think it may have suffocated on the cloth which we put in for a non slip surface. We then tapped the top of the other eggs gently and one of the 5 peeped so we have at least one other possibility.
