Egg Laying in Bedding *update

The roost is about the same height. How about if I install a heated lap next to the roost you think that will work

I'm sure that would make a difference, they would be drawn to the heat. What's wrong with poopy eggs if they're the ones hatching them?

So true. How many broody girls do you have? What breeds are you breeding?

I don't want poopy eggs b/c I'm eating them.

Ok, I understand that. I don't like having to pick up poopy eggs either. *haha* Right now my breeders are Buff Orpingtons and banty Dark Brahmas. The Orp seems more willing to nest than the Brahma, but she's only got three eggs!

What colors are your silkies? Any non-bearded?

I decided to go search for my Orp hen's eggs today. I scooped through all of the bedding by hand (with gloves) and found... ONE egg. There were four the last time I counted! Where'd they go!? The only thing I could come up with is that she broke them scratching around and ate them.
