Hello again! I have two adult hens who I rescued from cramped cages at a feed store recently, but a few weeks apart. They were in the hot sun all day with no food or water, and have been pecked a lot, so they've had some trauma. My first hen has been laying eggs every other day since day one. She has a bald, red cloaca...don't know if it's normal. She also hasn't laid an egg in three days. I've checked her for parasites and don't see any. I'm attaching a photo (sorry lol). Her tail feathers look chewed also. The second hen (the white one) was rescued last week and she hasn't laid a single egg. I can't tell if she's been molting or pecked a lot. Her neck and back end are pretty bad. Today, she left the yard to go back to the henhouse, and she did the thing where she was moaning/clucking and turning in circles making a nest in the wood shavings. I thought she would finally lay an egg, but 15 minutes later I saw her flying/running from the coop to join her friends under the trees. No egg.
We live in the desert. It's about 100*
They have a bunch of shade where they hang out during the day and it's usually breezy. I put an ice block in their water to help.
I feed them chick starter (our sand is good and the egg shells are always hard), wheatgrass, chia sprouts, watermelon, flax seeds, quinoa, earthworms, and other fruits. I see no parasites on their skin or feathers and I check their poop often, but I put diatomaceous earth in their house and in their feeder just in case. I have 9 teenage chickens with beautiful, glossy feathers and no issues, so I know they should all be healthy. I just have the two who are egg laying age. Thank you! And sorry for the long description lol
