Egg Laying.... it's a sign! = Update!!!

My EE's were hatched on 9 Mar and I got the first egg on Thursday 21 Jul and a second from the same girl today...yeah! I have two other EEs the same age and 3 Barred Rocks the same...

I have six Australorps, 21 weeks old tomorrow--nary an egg. Their combs and wattles turned bright red about six weeks ago, they have been squatting for three weeks and they even sing the egg song, but no eggs. I know they spend time in the nest, because the golf balls are always moved and there are feathers in the nest. We have been super hot just the last few days, but the last two weeks was perfect weather.

One (or more) of the girls has been hanging in the nest boxes, the pine shavings are all moved around and spilling into the sanded area of the coop ... I'm still not sure what the squat thing is but suspect Lily and Natasha were doing that today. Natasha has the biggest reddest comb, but Lilie's isn't all that red yet (but she's all white so everything about her seems a bit pale compared to my other ladies!)

Glad to hear about the EE's born 3/9 laying, their only 2 weeks older than my gals! I so can't wait!

My girls were born 3/20 - and I got my first egg yesterday. From a white leghorn. My EE's that were born the same time are not happening yet - but I seem to remember they took a while longer than all my other's before.

I caught my 15 week old White Rock roo and pullet hanging out inside the coop today. He was talking to her, and squatting in the corner, adjusting the straw. It looked exactly like he was telling her "you just sit here and lay the egg like this." She was paying attention, so funny!

That's funny you said that. I saw my Roo in the nest one day doing the same thing with an audience of hens. He chatted, messed with the bedding, and sat down and stood up abit, just like he was explaining what they should be doing. Two weeks later I got our first egg!!

I had the same thing with some of my boys. They would get into the nest boxes like they were the ones going to lay the eggs (rooster eggs). lol

I have had some of my pullets lay as early as 16 weeks but most layed between 18 and 24 weeks. I think the heat will affect their laying too. My older birds are not laying well and my roosters are on strike I think because of the heat.
